Three Songwomen

Hawthorn Arts Centre, 360 Burwood Rd, Hawthorn

Three Aboriginal songwomen from three different states, each travelling back three generations. ‘When one of us is broken, two can overcome, but a string of three is not easily broken’ are lyrics that describe the unity and resilience of Aboriginal women in Australian society.

Through music we explore how three communities produced three pioneering song-smiths and the inter-generational journeys traveled that shaped them. As songwomen, their voices carry the cultural heritage of their ancestors. Through endurance and adaption they become musical vessels that continue songlines and song traditions into the 21st century.
